Achievements
General description of career:
Margit Olle (before marriage on July 19, 2003; Margit Kleemann) was born on May 27, 1971. She finished Tartu Tamme Gymnasium with a silver medal. She studied for her B.Sc. at the Estonian University of Life Sciences and finished in 1993 Cum Laude, passing all exams excellently. Half of M. Sc. studies (one study year, 1993-1994) she took at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. In 1995, she defended her M.Sc. at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. She took her doctoral studies in 1995–1999 in Norway at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and defended her Doctor Scientiarum degree on May 27, 1999.
From 1999 to 2002, she worked at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. During the years 2000–2001, she worked as a senior researcher on a post-doctoral project revealing two major discoveries about calcium deficiency in leafy vegetable crops.
From 2003 to 2008, she worked as an administrative worker at other institutions.
From 2008 to 2020, she worked as a senior researcher at the Centre of Estonian Rural Research and Knowledge revealing 3 more discoveries in vegetable production.
Since 2021, she works at the NPO Veggies Cultivation.
She has primarily published high-quality, peer-reviewed research articles as the lead author, and her contribution to most of these articles exceeds 90%. She has published 12 research monographs—books and 3 popular scientific books in English and one general vegetable cultivation book in the Estonian language.
She has been invited to speak in Estonia and around the globe, has organized international conferences, has been on scientific committees, has been in editorial boards of internationally recognized scientific journals. Margit Olle was vice president of CIEC (International Scientific Centre of Fertilizers) in years 2018 - 2024. She is the chief editor of an international scientific journal, EUREKA: Life Sciences.

Discoveries:
Plants grown under a far-red filter contain more calcium and show fewer calcium deficiency symptoms.
Plants grown under negative DIF conditions contain more calcium and have fewer calcium deficiency symptoms.
Effective microorganisms (EM) improve the quality of tomato transplants because they remain compact with a larger stem diameter.
Si (silicic acid) made tomato transplants taller with a larger stem diameter.
The highest protein yield came from the varieties Capella, Clara, and Kirke. For those three varieties, there is a trend that increasing the sowing rate increases the protein yield.
